Tahoma, California is one of the more affordable areas on the West Shore of Lake Tahoe. The Tahoma community is located approximately nine (9) miles south of the "Y" in Tahoe City and is accessed by California Highway 89 South.
The Tahoma area is one of the more developed, established neighborhoods in the Lake Tahoe area and it's location makes it great place to enjoy the Tahoe life style.
Tahoma, California is located next to the Ed Z’berg Sugar Pine Point State Park. The Sugar Pine Point State park is a popular year-around attraction. It is the site of the Hellman-Ehrman mansion, which was completed in 1903, and it was home to the 1960 Winter Olympics Nordic Ski events, where part of the historic cross country Nordic ski routes are still in place and cross-country skiers can still enjoy them today.
Tahoma is very close to Chamber’s Landing in Homewood, California, which is a well-known historic local landmark. The Chambers Landing Bar and Pier, which was established in the late 1800’s is a popular place to spend time in the summer with their nice sandy beaches.
Tahoma is also just a few miles from the Homewood Ski Resort, where skiers enjoy panoramic views of Lake Tahoe.
Tahoma is located in two unincorporated counties - El Dorado County and Placer County in California. Tahoma has a full-time population of about 1,191 people (2010 US Census). Tahoma has a small commercial area with a post office, grocery store, pizza restaurant, and gelato store, just to name a few of the services in the area.
Tahoma’s close proximity to Lake Tahoe recreational activities such as boating, hiking, biking (dirt and paved trails), tennis, golf, skiing, shopping, and restaurants makes this a great area for those that enjoy being outdoors, and looking to get away from it all.
While the West Shore is known for getting more snow than other areas around Lake Tahoe, the Tahoma neighborhood is easily accessed all year-long and is a nice mix of full-time residents and second home owners.

The Tahoma area has single family home lots (including lakefront / waterfront), duplex, triplex, four-plex, motel, and commercial lots in this community. The Tahoma area is one of the more developed locations on the West Shore of Lake Tahoe and offers one of the lowest price points into the West Lake Tahoe area.
It is easy to get around in Tahoma as a good portion of the community was laid out in a grid pattern, with the Avenue Streets (2nd - 10th Avenue) running in one direction and Tree Named Streets (Alder, Fir, Elm, Oak, Popular and Pine) running in the other direction.
Tahoma Home Owner Associations:
The Tahoe Cedar Property Owners Association (TCPOA) provides Lake Tahoe beach and lakefront amenity access for those property owners that join the association.
This means a non-lakefront property owners gains access to Lake Tahoe beaches, shared pier use, and a buoy rental option through the TCPOA.
Membership into the TCPOA is voluntary, and they have two levels of membership, one which is dependant on property ownership in the HOA’s designated neighborhood/subdivisions and pays the required annual HOA fees and a "friends" of the TCPOA, which provides all of the same benefits of membership with the exception of buoy rentals.
Tahoma lakefronts, homes, and cabins range in price from just under $200,000 to just over $13 million. The selection of Tahoma homes is diverse and houses range from small studio Tahoe cabins to multi-million dollar lakefront estates.
The Tahoma area is a favorite for second home owners and is a great place to live all year long!
